IF YOUR HAND IS ALWAYS CLOSED NOTHING GETS IN OR OUT

As I read the list of names of persons who donated to Charities for the year 2008 I was not surprised to see that only a few of the names were those of famous celebrities. The contributors were persons who are mainly unknown to most of us and some requested to not have their names divulged until their death.

These are persons who never get the public accolades that celebrities live for. The public feeds on the pompous attitudes of some famous celebs and continue to support their self serving attitudes. Some, not all of them could care less about the public and even refuse to give autographs or time nor treasure to others. Most of them have the attitude that they are better than most and the public owes them something.

Personally, if those types of celebs depended on me they would be merely a thought when I saw them on TV, movies or anywhere else. People go out of their way to praise, honor, support and kiss up to them. They do nothing but set bad examples for our children, communities and society at large.

Definitely not all of them and this blog is not to suggest that it is. I am merely stating the facts about what is being presented about them in the media (that they love to have highlighted about their lives and accomplishments), only when they want to promote themselves and/or work).

I am not a hater and do respect people who deserve it. Yes, I do put my money where my mouth is. I give back and always have. I am educated and live a  middle class lifestyle and support my family, church and community. I am expressing my disappointment in famous people who don't give back and only continue to take and boast about what they have. These people have an obligation to do more because to those that much is given much is required.

The people on the Slate list gave millions of dollars to help people they don't know nor will they probably ever meet. They donated the money to charities of all types.

We need to hold celebs to a higher standard and expect them to do their part. They need to be responsible and care about the content of their art that they are putting out for public consumption to our children who are sponges. NO, it's not their responsibility to be a role model nor is it their place to raise our children but we are aware that most children are not being properly raised and the streets and gangs are taking on that role.

We must use all avenues available to us to reach our children and help our communities. It's not only the rich that have a responsibility it's all of us. The rich and famous has a platform and they should use it for more than filling their pockets. For the most part they give a few dollars and make a couple of appearances and lend their name. What is really needed is to have them do their part and start showing some of the favor that God has shown to them.
